"Proof" is a medical drama, but with an unusual supernatural twist. The main character is a feisty, hard-headed, extremely talented surgeon who is dealing with a recent divorce, the recent death of her teenage son and her estrangement from her hostile daughter. To help her cope with her family problems she throws herself fully into her charitable work, traveling around the world to offer free medical help to the victims of various disasters. But her agenda changes when a wealthy cancer victim convinces her to start investigating cases of possible reincarnation, hauntings, and out-of-body experiences, and miraculous recoveries from illness. She becomes obsessed with answering the question of whether there is life after death, or if death is truly the end. She receives both help and resistance from her boss at the hospital, from a famous best-selling author who claims to possess psychic abilities of his own, and from a Sudanese medical intern.
