In Queer Eye season 4 episode 2, titled "Disabled but Not Really," the Fab Five take on their latest challenge to help a Kansas City native named Wesley Hamilton. Wesley was once a successful athlete and fitness buff when an incident in 2012 left him paralyzed from the waist down. The Fab Five, eager to help, arrive to find a man who is dedicated to helping others and uses his own experiences as a disabled person to inspire and motivate those around him.
The episode begins with the Fab Five learning about Wesley's story and how he is committed to serving his community through his nonprofit organization, the Disabled but Not Really Foundation. The foundation aims to empower and inspire disabled individuals through fitness challenges and motivational speaking engagements.
Antoni takes on the kitchen challenge in this episode and helps Wesley learn some new cooking techniques to make his meals healthier and more nutrient-dense. Meanwhile, Tan gives Wesley a wardrobe overhaul to help him highlight his best features and feel confident and comfortable in his own skin.
Jonathan takes on the grooming challenge and helps Wesley refine his hair and facial hair to look neat and put-together. Karamo, in his role as cultural expert, works to help Wesley confront some emotional and psychological barriers that still hold him back from living his best life. Through a series of frank conversations, Karamo helps Wesley let go of some of the negative self-talk that is holding him back.
Finally, Bobby tackles the home makeover challenge and helps Wesley transform his old and cluttered living space into a sleek and stylish apartment that better suits his current lifestyle. Throughout the episode, the Fab Five work closely with Wesley to make sure that his unique needs as a disabled person are taken into account, and that every change they make is practical and sustainable for him.
The result of the Fab Five's work is a transformed Wesley who is more confident, self-assured, and motivated than ever before. Upon seeing his new apartment, Wesley breaks down in tears of gratitude, thanking the Queer Eye team for helping him see the potential in himself and his life.
