In Queer Eye's fifth season, the Fab Five return to Kansas City to bring their message of self-love and acceptance to a new batch of individuals who need their help. In episode 8, entitled "Father Knows Fish," the team comes to aid a single father named Nate who lives in a mid-century modern home that he has renovated himself. His daughter, Mimi, has asked the show's help to give her hard-working father the transformation he deserves.

Nate is a man who loves the outdoors and nature. He works as a first responder, so his job requires him to be quick on his feet and always ready to help. However, because he dedicates so much time to his demanding career, his personal life has taken a backseat. Despite his home being full of character, Nate has been neglecting his own self-care and happiness.

The episode begins with the Fab Five arriving at Nate's home. The team is made up of Tan France, Jonathan Van Ness, Karamo Brown, Antoni Porowski, and Bobby Berk. Each member of the team brings a unique set of skills to the table and is excited to help Nate improve his life.

Karamo, the culture expert, takes Nate on a heart-to-heart walk where they discuss the challenges he faces as a single father. Nate opens up about his insecurities and how he worries about being perceived as not manly enough. Karamo helps Nate redefine his idea of masculinity to include emotional vulnerability and self-care.

Tan, the fashion expert, helps Nate with his wardrobe. Nate usually dresses in functional clothing like cargo pants and T-shirts, so it's time for a wardrobe overhaul. Tan introduces Nate to form-fitting clothes that accentuate his physique, giving him more confidence.

Bobby, the interior design expert, takes on the project of redecorating Nate's home. Bobby wants to help Nate transform his cluttered living space into a relaxing retreat where he can unwind. Bobby's design choices incorporate Nate's love for nature, and he uses lots of green, wood, and natural elements. The result is a warm, inviting space perfect for Nate and Mimi.

Antoni, the food and wine expert, takes Nate for a fishing trip out on the lake. They catch a pike and gut and cook the fish back at Nate's house, where Antoni shows him how to prepare the fish in a delicious and healthy way. Antoni stresses the importance of taking care of oneself by eating healthy and incorporating nutritious foods into one's diet.

Jonathan, the grooming expert, takes Nate to a salon to get a fresh haircut and a stylish beard trim. Jonathan emphasizes the importance of taking care of himself and practicing good grooming habits.

Throughout the episode, the Fab Five share moments of emotional vulnerability and connection with Nate. They encourage him to embrace his personal style, take care of himself, and open up emotionally. Nate's work as a first responder takes a toll on his mental and physical health, but thanks to the Fab Five, he realizes that it's important to prioritize self-care.

At the end of the episode, the Fab Five throw a surprise party for Nate to celebrate his transformation. Mimi, Nate's daughter, is over the moon with how happy her father looks, and there are lots of tears of joy all around.

"Father Knows Fish" is a heartwarming episode that emphasizes the importance of self-care and emotional vulnerability. The Fab Five help Nate realizes that he is deserving of love, care, and attention. By the end of the episode, Nate has a newfound sense of self-confidence and is ready to take on the world with his renewed sense of self-love and appreciation.
