Ep 1. Volume 1
In the first episode of Red vs. Blue: Volume 1, we are introduced to the world of Blood Gulch. The episode starts with a lone soldier, Private Church, standing in the desert, talking to himself. He is then joined by Private Tucker, who is carrying a large box. The two soldiers are members of the Red Army and are stationed at Blood Gulch Outpost #1.
As they walk back to the base, Church and Tucker discuss their living situation at the outpost. They share a room, which they describe as "crappy," and they complain about their lack of entertainment options. Church even suggests building a fort out of the boxes they receive, and Tucker agrees that it would be a good idea.
When they arrive back at the base, they find that their commanding officer, Sergeant Grif, is taking a nap. Grif is a sarcastic and lazy soldier who seems to take pleasure in doing as little work as possible. Church and Tucker wake him up and he begrudgingly gets up to check the delivery.
As the three soldiers examine the box that Tucker brought back, they realize that it's a new recruit named Private Donut. They're dismayed by the fact that they have to babysit him, but they quickly find out that Donut is very enthusiastic and eager to be a part of the team.
Meanwhile, at the Blue Army Base, we're introduced to their team. The Blues are led by Captain Butch Flowers, a much more serious and competent leader than Sergeant Grif. The Blues have their own problems, however: their newest member, Private Caboose, seems to be an accidental liability. He accidentally fires a rocket launcher, causing an explosion in the base that destroys part of the wall.
Back at Blood Gulch, Sergeant Grif is still trying to avoid doing any work, while Church and Tucker are showing Private Donut around the base. They come across a tank in the middle of the canyon, and Donut eagerly suggests that they take it for a joyride. Tucker is skeptical, but Church agrees that it could be fun.
As they start up the tank, they inadvertently fire a shot that destroys the Blue Team's radio tower. This leads to a confrontation between the Red and Blue teams, in which both sides accuse the other of destroying their equipment.
Finally, the episode ends with a mysterious figure watching both teams from a distance. This person remains unidentified, but it adds an air of mystery and intrigue to the already entertaining mix of humor and action.
Overall, the first episode of Red vs. Blue sets up the world and characters of the show in a way that is both funny and engaging. The humor is sharp and witty, and the action is animated with impressive skill. It's clear that there are bigger things to come in the following episodes, but Volume 1 is a strong start that leaves the audience wanting more.
