Season 1 episode 12 of the Canadian science fiction television series, ReGenesis, is titled "Resurrection." The episode begins with Bob Melnikov, an entomology professor, who had been struck by lightning miraculously coming back to life at his own funeral. Meanwhile, Dr. David Sandström, the head of NorBAC (North American Biotechnology Advisory Commission), is dealing with another crisis as a strange virus has caused a food poisoning outbreak in a small town in Canada. The virus is traced back to a genetically modified bacterium that was designed to digest ethylene and prolong the shelf life of tomatoes. However, the virus has mutated and is now attacking human DNA, causing severe neurological damage. With NorBAC's help, the team investigates the source of the virus and discovers that the genetically modified bacterium was contaminated by a mutant strain of E. coli. Further investigation leads them to an organic farming collective where they find the E. coli strain. As events unfold, Dr. Sandström learns that the virus was not accidentally released but is part of a bigger conspiracy to perfect bioweapons for biological warfare. The evidences lead to Dr. Carlos Dos Santos, an eminent biologist specialized in the design of biological weapons and a former colleague of Dr. Sandström himself. As the show progresses, NorBAC works with a military detachment to apprehend Dr. Dos Santos and prevent any weaponization of the virus. Throughout the episode, the main characters experience personal crises as well. Dr. Sandström and his ex-wife Dr. Mayko Tran are trying to keep their relationship professional. Meanwhile, Dr. Caroline Morrison and Dr. Bob Melnikov strike up a romantic relationship. Dr. Morrison also has an uneasy relationship with her daughter, who is still upset that her mother chose her career over their family. Ultimately, the characters must work together to stop the biological threat and deal with the aftermath of the crisis. "Resurrection" is a fast-paced episode that balances action and personal drama to keep the viewers engaged.
