Ep 3. Enemy of the Senate

In the third episode of Roman Empire: Reign of Blood season 1, titled "Enemy of the Senate," the focus shifts squarely on Gaius Julius Caesar, one of the most important and iconic figures in ancient Rome. As the episode begins, Caesar is serving as the governor of Gaul, a position that he has held for eight grueling years. Despite his success in expanding Rome's borders and securing the loyalty of various tribes, Caesar's enemies back in Rome grow increasingly suspicious of his ambitions and his popularity.

These fears come to a head when the Senate accuses Caesar of unlawful conduct during his time in Gaul. Specifically, they charge him with waging an unauthorized war and putting Roman citizens at risk. Caesar sees these accusations as an attack on his honor and his legacy, and he returns to Rome to stand trial and defend himself.

The rest of the episode is a tense and dramatic courtroom drama, as Caesar begrudgingly plays the game of politics in order to clear his name. He makes alliances with powerful senators and uses his skill with rhetoric to persuade the jury of his innocence. Throughout the trial, we see flashbacks to Caesar's past exploits in Gaul, and how his relationships with allies and enemies alike have shaped his reputation and his destiny.

But even as Caesar appears to be gaining the upper hand, we see ominous signs that his troubles are far from over. His old rival Pompey, who also happens to be married to Caesar's daughter, begins to make his own moves against him. And Mark Antony, a loyal lieutenant to Caesar, begins to chafe under his command and hint at his own ambitions.

The episode ends with a verdict in Caesar's trial, but it is clear that his enemies are not content to let him go free. As he leaves the courtroom, we see that the political game of ancient Rome is just as treacherous and complex as the battlefield, and that Caesar will have to fight hard to survive.
