As a historical family drama, Roman Mysteries is set in Ancient Rome during the time of Emperor Titus. Season 2 episode 9, titled "The Slavegirl from Jerusalem: Part One," is a two-part episode that features the main characters' involvement in the slave trade. The episode opens with our protagonists Flavia, Jonathan, Nubia, and Lupus meeting with a new character, Lysimachus, who sells slaves. The four friends are shocked and appalled by the slave trade and Lysimachus's callous attitude toward humans. Despite the group's disapproval, their curiosity is piqued when Lysimachus tells them about a new shipment of slaves from Jerusalem, including Salma, a young girl who has a connection to Nubia's past.

Flavia and her friends decide to investigate the shipment and try to identify Salma among the slavegirls. However, their plan goes awry as Lysimachus notices their presence. Flavia and Jonathan manage to escape, but Nubia and Lupus are caught by Lysimachus and his henchmen. Nubia is identified by Lysimachus as a slave that he had previously sold to a wealthy family. Lupus, who had snuck into the cargo ship looking for Salma, is mistaken for a stowaway and is thrown into the ship's hold with the rest of the slaves.

The episode shifts to Nubia's flashback, where we learn about her past as a slave. We see her memories of her enslavement and how she was eventually freed by Flavia's father, the former governor of Britain. Nubia's story highlights the injustices and cruelties of the slave trade and how it affects human lives.

Meanwhile, Flavia and Jonathan are devising a plan to rescue Nubia and Lupus and prevent the sale of Salma. Flavia uses her connections with wealthy Roman families to arrange a meeting with an influential senator, hoping that he will intervene on their behalf. In a dramatic scene, Flavia convinces the senator to use his power and authority to stop the slave trade and save Nubia, Lupus, and Salma.

The episode ends with Flavia and Jonathan waiting anxiously for news of the senator's intervention. Will they be successful in stopping the slave trade and rescuing their friends? What will become of Salma, the young girl from Jerusalem? The stage is set for an emotionally charged and high-stakes finale.

"The Slavegirl from Jerusalem: Part One" is a powerful episode that sheds light on the horrors of the slave trade and how it affected human lives. The episode's themes of humanity, compassion, and freedom are explored through the characters' experiences and struggles. It is a poignant reminder of the atrocities of the past and the importance of fighting for human rights and dignity.
