Ep 1. Matsya

After a highly anticipated wait, Sacred Games is finally back with its second season! The first episode, Matsya, picks up right where the last season ended and plunges viewers straight into the action.

Gaitonde (Nawazuddin Siddiqui) is still trapped in his underground bunker, contemplating his failures and trying to piece together how he got there. After having a vision of the Hindu god, Shiva, Gaitonde decides to enlist the help of a new ally, Batya Abelman (Kalki Koechlin). Abelman is a Jewish woman, who claims to have the ability to help him find redemption and escape from his captivity. However, Gaitonde is suspicious of her and tries to get answers from her about her identity and motives.

Meanwhile, Mumbai is in turmoil after the attack on the city by the famous gangster, Ganesh Gaitonde. The police are scrambling to contain the situation, and Sartaj Singh (Saif Ali Khan) is no exception. He is still dealing with the aftermath of his own personal turmoil and grappling with his identity as a Sikh cop in a Hindu-dominated police force. When he receives a mysterious phone call from Gaitonde, Sartaj is forced to make difficult choices and is sucked back into the dangerous world of the Mumbai underworld.

The episode also introduces new characters and plotlines, such as the storyline of Kuku (Harshita Gaur), a transgender bar dancer who is trying to survive in the city and the arrival of a mysterious man named Shahid Khan (Ranvir Shorey). It also hints at deeper political conspiracy and religious conflicts that will undoubtedly tie into the larger narrative of the series.

Sacred Games season 2 episode 1, Matsya, is a fast-paced and intense reintroduction into the world of Mumbai's corrupt underworld. With impeccable performances from the cast and a strong script, it sets a high bar for the rest of the season and promises to be an exciting ride for viewers.
