Ep 4. What's Going On?

The show Sense8 follows a group of eight individuals from all around the world who suddenly find themselves psychically connected. Season 1 episode 4, titled "What's Going On?" further explores the mechanics of this connection as the eight "sensates" begin to exert more control over one another's bodies and minds, blurring the lines between their separate identities.

The episode begins with a flashback to the moments just before the sensates' birth, as their psychic connection is forged by the death of a woman giving birth in Nairobi, Kenya. Cut to the present day, and the sensates are experiencing increasingly vivid and strange visions of one another's lives. Nomi, a transgender hacktivist in San Francisco, is haunted by the image of a Korean businesswoman named Sun Bak (played by the actress Bae Doona). Sun is an expert martial artist and also dealing with her own struggles as a woman in a male-dominated field.

Meanwhile, in Iceland, one of the sensates named Lito (played by actor Miguel Ángel Silvestre) is caught in a compromising position with his boyfriend by paparazzi. Back in San Francisco, Nomi is being harassed by her ex-boyfriend's police officer brother, who is determined to catch her for her past hacking activities. He attempts to have her committed to a psychiatric hospital, where she would be unable to use her psychic connection to assist the other sensates in their fight against a mysterious organization called BPO.

While Nomi struggles to escape from the hospital, the other sensates are experiencing visions of her plight. Sun, in particular, begins to experience full-body convulsions as she tries to fight against the force that is overtaking her. Lito, another sensate named Riley, and a Chicago cop named Will (played by actor Brian J. Smith) are all connected in turn to Sun and Nomi, trying to figure out how to help them without revealing their own identities.

As the episode progresses, the sensates' connection becomes more and more complex. They begin to share physical sensations and memories, leading to moments of humor (such as when Lito is forced to experience one of Riley's particularly unappetizing meals) and intimacy (as when Will and Riley share a kiss). They also begin to experiment with using each other's skills to solve problems - for example, Nomi uses Lito's acting skills to bluff her way out of the hospital.

But amidst all this experimentation, there looms a sense of danger. The BPO organization is watching the sensates, and seems to have the power to track them no matter how far apart they are. As the sensates begin to discover more about one another's lives and secrets, they wonder how much they can really trust one another - and what the consequences might be if their connection is discovered.

Overall, "What's Going On?" is a tense and emotionally charged episode that delves deeper into the inner workings of the sensates' connection. It offers a glimpse into the complex web of relationships and secrets that binds them together, and sets the stage for even more high-stakes drama to come.
