Ketchup is the twenty-third episode of the first season of the American sitcom television series, Single Parents. The episode starts with Angie trying to have a conversation with Derek, her son, about the importance of honesty but realizing that it’s not easy to teach a child to be truthful. She admits to using ketchup to trick her child into eating vegetables. Meanwhile, Will is going through a tough time, and Miggy is reminded of the importance of his role in the group.

While at school, Derek gets an opportunity to audition for the school play, but he has to lie to get his mom to sign the permission form. Once Angie finds out about the lie, she goes into overdrive attempting to mend her son’s bad habit. While Derek is dealing with this issue, Miggy is going through a tough time and is reminded of the importance of being the “daddy” of the group since Graham’s father is absent.

Elsewhere, the other single parents decide to make it a competition to create the best birthday gift for Douglas, who is turning forty. Poppy attempts to step up to the plate and make a heartfelt present, but in the process, she realizes that she doesn’t know Douglas as well as she thought she did.

Eventually, Miggy opens up to the group about the monumental event in his life that he is struggling with. His baby is scheduled to have surgery. The group rallies around him to provide support, and they all vow to be there with Miggy no matter what happens.

As the episode wraps up, Angie shares a touching moment with Derek, Poppy and Douglas bond over a nostalgic gift, and the group comes together to display their love and support for Miggy. The episode ends on a high note with Derek getting the lead role in the school play and the group coming together as a family to be there for one another in the good times and the bad.

Overall, the episode is heartwarming and showcases the power of friendship and love to get through tough times. It’s a testament to the idea that there is strength in numbers and that together, anything is possible. The show has a way of taking relatable issues and using humor to make them approachable, defusing tension and allowing viewers to relate to the characters.
