In the 19th episode of Season 2 of "State Plate," host Taylor Hicks explores the great state of North Carolina and its eclectic and delicious cuisine. Known for its BBQ, seafood, and sweet treats, North Carolina is a foodie's paradise.
Hicks begins his journey in Asheville, where he visits a farm that produces some of the highest quality meat in the state. He learns about the specific breed of pig they raise and how they are able to create such delicious pork products.
Next up, Hicks heads out to the coast to try some of North Carolina's famous seafood dishes. He visits a local fish market to get a taste of fresh shrimp, oysters, and clams before heading to a seafood restaurant that's been around for decades. He learns about the history behind some of the classic Carolina seafood dishes and gets to try them for himself.
Moving inland, Hicks stops in Raleigh to try some of the state's famous BBQ. He visits one of the oldest BBQ restaurants in the state to try out their pulled pork and learns about the traditional methods used to cook it. He also tries some of the classic southern sides like collard greens and mac and cheese.
No trip to North Carolina would be complete without trying their signature sweet treats, so Hicks makes a stop at a bakery in Winston-Salem to try out some of the famous Moravian cookies. He learns about the history behind these thin and crispy cookies and gets to try some of the different flavors they offer.
Finally, Hicks makes a stop in Chapel Hill to try out some of the state's famous hot dogs. He visits a restaurant that's been serving up hot dogs since 1916 and learns about the unique toppings they offer, including chili and slaw.
Throughout the episode, Hicks not only tries out some of the best food North Carolina has to offer but also learns about the history and culture behind each dish. From the mountains to the coast, North Carolina has a diverse and delicious food scene that any food lover would appreciate.
