The Conners season 1 episode 10, titled "Don't Shoot the Piano Teacher," centers around the family's financial struggles as they try to come up with ways to make ends meet. Darlene's son, Mark, is struggling in school and asks his mother for piano lessons to help him qualify for a scholarship that would cover his tuition. Darlene, in turn, asks her Aunt Jackie, who is a music teacher, to give Mark lessons.
Meanwhile, Becky takes a job at a local bar but struggles with the attention she receives from male customers. She confides in her sister, Darlene, and they come up with a plan to embarrass the men by pretending to be lesbians.
Dan, struggling with his own financial issues, decides to sell an old motorcycle that has been in the family for years. He and his friends spend the whole episode trying to fix it up, but it doesn't seem to be in good enough condition to make a large profit.
The episode also deals with the aftermath of Darlene and David's brief reunion, and how it affects David's girlfriend Blue. Blue is struggling to come to terms with the fact that David still has feelings for Darlene, and the situation comes to a head during a family dinner.
As always, the episode is filled with humor and heart, as the Conner family tries to navigate their way through the ups and downs of life.
