After an arduous semester of college, Will Smith returns to his luxurious home in Bel-Air determined to indulge in his much-needed vacation. However, his euphoria is blighted when his parents pay him an abrupt call and divulge their plans to jet off to Brazil on a leisurely trip. Initially, Will is apprehensive about his parents’ sojourn, but he feels settled when his parents assure him that his devout narcissistic friend, Jazz, will be looking after him.
Nonetheless, their assurances do not hold due to Jazz’s inability to curb his insatiable appetite for parties and girls. Jazz gets Will involved in an intimate party where he meets and has an amorous connection with a woman named Jackie. However, their rendezvous is short-lived when Will gets a call from the airport informing him that his parents’ plane has crashed in a ravine in a remote area of Cleveland, Ohio.
Will and his cousins, Carlton and Hilary, set out on a journey filled with frustration and anxiety when they realize they will not arrive in Cleveland in time with a commercial flight. In an effort to race against time, they receive support from an unlikely ally, Vy Smith, the manager of a pest control company. Vy realizes the predicament the children are in, and she takes it upon herself to overturn the policy which forbids commercial airlines from courting with private planes. After a momentous squabble with a pilot, who tries to shut down the plan to take off from an active military base, Vy manages to unite the children with the pilot, thus taking the kids a step closer to their final destination.
Upon their arrival, they are met with an inactive rescue mission that has given up on trying to recover survivors after deeming Will’s parents deceased. However, Will refuses to accept this outcome and sets out on an expedition to gather further details about the crash. Will and his team soon discover that a witness, who was near the crash site, can disclose what they needed to know regarding the incident. They devise a plan, and Will agrees to dress up as a bible peddler to get access to the witness's compound.
After securing the interview with the witness, Will and his team present the new findings to the rescue team. With the emergence of new information, the rescue team launches a fresh search and discovers that Will’s parents survived the crash and were released to a nearby hospital.
In a bid to bring the show to conclusion, the family reunites after Will’s parents’ release from the hospital. The family spends the night together reminiscing and mending broken bonds, something which was not achievable by all of them being in different places. In the end, Will’s parents agree to take him back to Bel-Air with them, creating a fresh start.
