In the real world Cyd Sherman is an unemployed introvert whose ex-boyfriend turned gay and whose skin hardly touches sunlight. But on her favorite MMORPG video game she is Codex, a capable and deadly priestess loyal to her guild The Knights of Good. The Guild web series documents Codex's many failures and glories as she video blogs about her struggle to negotiate the often conflicting elements of reality and online life. The series begins with the arrival of an unexpected visitor whose sudden invasion interrupts Codex's self-imposed isolation. Unable to solve this problem alone, Codex turns to The Knights of Good and suggests the unthinkable: that they meet in person for the first time. From that point forward, with no one else to turn to after being fired by her therapist for refusing to control her video game addiction, Codex relies on her fellow guildies for social support. All quirky and socially dysfunctional in their own right, each member of the guild adds a unique flavor of anxiety to Codex's life in their attempt to be helpful. With the cheap, middle-aged Vork, the irresponsible homemaker Clara, the sexually challenged Zaboo, and other eccentric members of the guild at her side, Codex traverses reality while observing their unconventional methods of handling everyday perils. As a guild they tackle the messiness of love and relationships, internet rivalries, and overbearing parents. They uncover the complicated inner-politics of steam punk music, the dangers of geek conventions, and the fragility of viral fame. However, no matter where the guild's misadventures lead them, Codex and the gang approach each problem as only the most obsessive gamers can: with one eye constantly directed toward a computer monitor. Filled with gamer lingo and inside jokes for the internet savvy, The Guild web series was created and written by geek celebrity Felicia Day who also plays the role of Codex, the show's game-addicted protagonist.
