Ep 1. Pilot

The Passage is a post-apocalyptic thriller series that follows the story of a government experiment gone wrong that leads to the outbreak of a deadly virus that turns people into vampire-like creatures called virals. The series is based on a novel by Justin Cronin.

In the opening episode of the series, titled "Pilot," we are introduced to the story's main character, Amy Bellafonte (Saniyya Sidney), a young orphan girl who is about to become a part of a top-secret experiment. The experiment, led by Dr. Jonas Lear (Henry Ian Cusick), aims to find a cure for all diseases by using a virus found in the Bolivian jungle. The only catch is that the virus turns people into bloodthirsty creatures.

As the episode progresses, we get a glimpse of Amy's life in the orphanage, where she has no friends and is constantly bullied. However, this changes when she meets Agent Brad Wolgast (Mark-Paul Gosselaar), a man tasked with bringing Amy to the government research facility where the experiment is being carried out. Initially, Amy is scared and hesitant to go with him, but she is eventually convinced to do so.

We also get a glimpse into Brad's life. He is a troubled man who has lost his wife and daughter and has a history of alcoholism. However, he still tries to do the right thing and protect Amy from the dangerous experiment she is about to become a part of.

As they reach the research facility, we are introduced to the scientists working on the project, including Dr. Tim Fanning (Jamie McShane), a man who is infected with the virus but is somehow able to control his urges and maintain his humanity. This makes him a valuable asset to Dr. Jonas Lear.

However, as the episode progresses, we see that things are not what they seem in the research facility. The scientists are hiding something, and Brad becomes suspicious. He starts to question their motives and their treatment of Amy, who is being held in a restricted area of the facility.

Towards the end of the episode, we see that Dr. Fanning's condition worsens, and he turns into a viral. He manages to escape from the facility and starts spreading the virus to others.

The first episode of The Passage sets the tone for the series, introducing us to the main characters and the dark world that they inhabit. It successfully builds the suspense and intrigue for the rest of the series, leaving viewers wanting more. With its complex characters and unpredictable storyline, The Passage promises to be a riveting thriller that will keep audiences on the edge of their seats.
