Set in the small town of Greylock, The Republic of Sarah follows high school teacher Sarah Cooper who becomes the unlikely leader of her own nation after discovering a valuable resource beneath the town. In season 1 episode 6, titled "A Show of Hands," tensions rise between Greylock and the neighboring town of North Unity as they both make a claim on the resource.
Sarah (played by Stella Baker) and her team must come up with a plan to prove that Greylock has the legal right to the resource before North Unity can steal it away. They decide to hold a town hall meeting where the citizens of Greylock can vote on whether or not Greylock should have rights to the resource.
Meanwhile, Sarah's brother Danny (played by Luke Mitchell) struggles with his own feelings as he continues to secretly date Corinne (Megan Follows), the mayor of North Unity. Sarah's best friend, AJ (Izabella Alvarez), confronts Danny about his relationship with Corinne and urges him to be honest with Sarah.
As tensions escalate, Greylock's resident historian, Ellen (Hope Lauren), uncovers documents that could prove vital to Greylock's case. However, the documents are in North Unity's possession, so Sarah and her team devise a plan to sneak into the North Unity town hall and retrieve them.
As the town hall meeting begins, tensions come to a head as the citizens of Greylock and North Unity make their cases for why they should have access to the resource. Sarah presents the newly discovered documents, but it's unclear if they will be enough to sway the vote in Greylock's favor.
As the citizens begin to vote, Danny makes a bold decision that could have major consequences for his relationship with Corinne and for Greylock's future.
"A Show of Hands" is a thrilling episode that showcases the tensions between neighboring towns and the complex relationships that exist within and between them.
