Ep 1. From the Ashes

Devon Pravesh is back at Chastain Memorial Hospital for another year of residency, and things are off to a rocky start. The hospital is still recovering from the devastating fire that destroyed its surgical suits, and Bell, Conrad, and the rest of the staff are struggling to keep up with the growing patient load.

As the episode begins, Chastain is in chaos, with patients overflowing into the hallways and ER staff stretched to their limit. Devon is assigned to work with a new attending, Dr. Barrett Cain, a charismatic and ambitious surgeon who has a reputation for being ruthless. Cain brushes off Devon's concerns and tells him that he needs to stop being so idealistic if he wants to succeed in medicine.

Conrad also has a run-in with Cain, when the two clash over a patient who needs surgery. Cain wants to perform a dangerous and unnecessary procedure, but Conrad knows that there's a safer option. The two butt heads, but eventually Conrad convinces Cain to go with his plan.

As the episode comes to a close, Chastain is still struggling with the aftermath of the fire. The hospital's administrators are pressuring Bell to find a way to increase profits, and Bell knows that this means cutting corners and compromising patient care. Meanwhile, Conrad is still worried about his father, and decides to do some investigating of his own to figure out what's going on.
