Ep 4. Moving On And Mother Hens

The Resident season 4 episode 4, titled "Moving On And Mother Hens," takes place in the fictional Chastain Park Memorial Hospital and once again follows the lives of its staff members. The episode primarily centers on two storylines.

Firstly, we see the return of a beloved character, Nic Nevin, an oncology nurse who took a hiatus from nursing to take care of her sister's baby. Nic's return to work was not without its challenges, especially when it came to finding balance between her work and caring for the baby with her husband. However, Nic was determined to prove that she can handle both and refused to ask for help. Through this storyline, we see a juggle of work-life balance and its effects when both sides start weighing down on someone.

The second storyline of the episode portrays a group of women fighting for justice against a large pharmaceutical company that they believe was responsible for their friends and family member's death. Mina Okafor, the surgical resident doctor at Chastain Park Memorial Hospital, was one of the women leading the crusade against the pharmaceutical company.

Mina makes it her mission to help these women find answers, and ultimately, justice. However, Mina's determination to help these women leaves her vulnerable as her actions may affect her job. Furthermore, it doesn't help that one of the women spearheading the movement has a son who is currently seen as a patient in the hospital with a concerning medical condition, which brings in a balance of compassion and professionalism.

Throughout the episode, as the women try to get through to people to further the cause, we see a side of the healthcare industry that is typically not portrayed in the media, highlighting problems with prescription drugs and the impact of big pharma.

Finally, the episode concludes with Nic finding the balance between her work and motherhood, and Mina's work paying off, providing the women and their families with some justice. Moving On And Mother Hens is another brilliant episode in the series that flawlessly combines a balance of drama, compassion, and realism while raising issues many people go through, whether that is balancing work and family or going against the pharmaceutical giants.
