  • July 21, 1975

Joey Bishop is back as guest host for The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson and he welcomed a special guest on the show, the glamorous Spanish-American performer known simply as Charo.

Joey seemed extremely excited to have the vivacious and bubbly Charo on the show and immediately began chatting with her about her life and career. Charo was more than happy to oblige and it was clear from the outset that she and Joey had great chemistry.

Charo spoke about her upbringing in Spain and learning the guitar at a young age. She talked about her move to the United States and her early career in Hollywood. She even demonstrated her flamenco style of playing guitar, much to the delight of the audience.

Joey then asked Charo about her famous catchphrase, "Cuchi-cuchi". Charo explained that it was something she had been saying since she was a child and it had just stuck with her. She then demonstrated the phrase and the audience erupted in applause and laughter.

The conversation then turned to Charo's recent appearance in the film "Moon Over Parador" alongside Richard Dreyfuss and Raul Julia. Charo talked about how much fun she had on set and how excited she was to work with two talented actors.

Joey also took the opportunity to showcase his own comedic talents, with his trademark deadpan delivery and sharp wit. The two went back and forth, exchanging jokes and stories, and the audience was in stitches.

In addition to Charo, the episode featured musical performances by The Pat Williams Orchestra and The Goldiggers. The Pat Williams Orchestra played a lively version of "Take the A Train", while The Goldiggers performed a medley of songs from the Broadway hit "A Chorus Line".

The episode closed with Joey thanking Charo and the other guests for coming on the show and bidding the audience goodnight. It was a fun and entertaining episode, with Joey and Charo making for a fantastic pairing and bringing their respective talents to the forefront.
