Velazquez is a great painter, but because all of his portraits of King Phillip IV show His Majesty grimacing, the king becomes irritated and forbids Velazquez to paint any more portraits of him. He does, however, commission the painter to do a portrait of his daughter. Velazquez decides to do a painting in which the king discretely appears.
