Ep 7. The Pool Opening

Ryuji and Taiga prepare for the upcoming pool opening; however, their excitement is short-lived as they discover that they will be working as lifeguards for their school's swimming pool. The two are unaware that the jobs were set up by their homeroom teacher, who is doing everything in his power to bring Ryuji and Taiga closer together in hopes that they will eventually develop feelings for each other.

As the day progresses, Ryuji watches over the pool while Taiga dozes off in the sun. Soon after, Minori and Ami arrive, and Ryuji becomes flustered trying to fulfill his responsibilities as a lifeguard while also trying to impress Minori. Meanwhile, Ami teases Taiga about her feelings for Ryuji, causing Taiga to become furious and storm off.

Later, the group plays a game of watermelon smashing which causes Taiga to accidentally reveal her crush on Ryuji to everyone. Ryuji, who is surprised but flattered, tries to make light of the situation while Taiga becomes embarrassed and runs away.

As the day comes to an end, Ryuji and Taiga find themselves alone at the pool. Ryuji thanks Taiga for her help and they both apologize for their behavior earlier. Taiga then admits that she is scared of her feelings for Ryuji and feels that she does not deserve his kindness. Ryuji, however, reassures her that she is worthy of his friendship and that he will always care for her.

As they leave the pool, Ryuji and Taiga run into Minori, who is surprised to see them walking together. Ryuji and Taiga try to explain the situation, but Minori cuts them off and tells them that she is happy for them. The episode ends with Ryuji and Taiga walking home together, the two of them feeling more connected than ever before.
