Bayern Munich and Sevilla face off in the UEFA Super Cup match, a contest viewed as the meeting between the champions of Europe's top two club competitions; the Champions League and Europa League. Bayern come into the game as the firm favourites given their recent run of form and obvious pedigree. However, Sevilla are no pushovers and have a history of causing upsets in this kind of match. Both teams feature stars on their rosters, including Bayern's prolific striker Robert Lewandowski and Sevilla's talismanic captain Jesus Navas.
The match kicks off with a high tempo as both sides look to find their rhythm early. Bayern dominate possession in the early exchanges and create the first chance of the game through a Lewandowski header that flashes just wide of the goal. Sevilla are not to be outdone, however, and soon find their footing in the game, creating their own opportunities on the counter-attack. The first half ends with the score deadlocked at 0-0, but with both teams looking to break the deadlock in the second period.
As the second half progresses, it becomes evident that Bayern have the upper hand. They continue to dominate possession and create a number of opportunities to score. Sevilla, on the other hand, are content to hit on the counter and look to catch their opponents off guard. The game looks to be heading towards an extra-time period until Bayern finally break the deadlock with a goal from Leon Goretzka. The dynamic midfielder finds himself on the end of a Kingsley Coman cross and expertly slots the ball into the net past the outstretched arm of the Sevilla keeper.
Sevilla are not done yet, though, as they continue to push forward and look for a way back into the game. Their efforts are rewarded in the dying moments of the match when Lucas Ocampos heads home a corner to make it 1-1. Extra-time beckons, but Bayern have other ideas. They continue to push forward and soon find themselves in front once again. This time it is Javi Martinez who scores, nodding home a corner to give his team the lead. Sevilla try to respond once again, but it is too little too late as Bayern hold on to win the game 2-1 and claim the Super Cup title.
The match is a fitting end to a great season of European football. Both Bayern and Sevilla show why they are among the best teams in the world and provide fans with an enthralling display of attacking football. The Super Cup win is just another feather in Bayern's cap as they continue to dominate European football. Sevilla can hold their heads high, though, knowing that they pushed their opponents to the limit and showed that they are a force to be reckoned with.
