Ep 9. Running

Selina Meyer is on the campaign trail and in the ninth episode of season two, entitled "Running", she is trying to drum up support amongst the Latino community. She meets with a group of Latino journalists in Miami who give her the opportunity to speak in front of their audience. The problem is that Selina's Spanish isn't great and she makes a bit of a mess of her speech.

Meanwhile, Gary is still reeling from the news that Selina's ex-husband, Andrew, is dating her daughter. He goes on a bit of a bender and ends up getting arrested for drunk and disorderly conduct. Selina has to bail him out of jail and deal with the fallout from his behaviour.

Back in D.C., Mike is struggling to keep the campaign on track. He's trying to organise a victory lap for Selina in Indiana but things keep going wrong. Firstly, Sue accidentally books them a flight to Indianola rather than Indianapolis. Then, Amy gets into a Twitter spat with one of Selina's opponents.

As well as her problems in Miami, Selina has to deal with a photo that's been leaked to the press. It shows her wearing a sombrero at a Cinco de Mayo event and she's worried that it will be seen as cultural appropriation. She tries to get the photo retracted but it's already been picked up by a number of news outlets.

All in all, "Running" is a typical episode of Veep - full of sharp wit and political satire. It's a great insight into the inner workings of a political campaign, as we see the team grappling with unexpected events and trying to stay on message. Julia Louis-Dreyfus continues to shine in the lead role, bringing both humour and heart to the character of Selina Meyer. It's an entertaining and insightful look at the world of politics, and one that's well worth a watch.
