World War II ended on VE Day in May 1945 for those Canadians fighting in Europe. Mixed with the joy & celebration of this sudden, new peace were daunting realities getting the hundreds of thousands of war-weary troops and POWs home, and finding jobs for these returning men and women as their country made the transition from war to peace.
