Wisting is a gripping crime drama set in Norway that follows homicide detective William Wisting as he sets out to solve complex and often convoluted cases. Season 2 of this critically acclaimed series starts on an extremely high note with Episode 1.
In this episode, we see William Wisting reunited with his daughter Line, who is also a journalist. Line has been away in Germany for quite some time, and her return is met with great joy from Wisting and his family. However, this happy reunion is quickly overshadowed by the discovery of a dead body on the local beach, in the small coastal town of Larvik.
The body is that of eighteen-year-old Cecilia Linde. She was reported missing by her family two weeks prior, and the circumstances surrounding her disappearance are disturbingly vague. With no obvious signs of foul play, it is unclear how she ended up dead on the beach. Wisting is immediately assigned to the case, with his loyal partner and colleague, Adrian Stiller, by his side.
The investigation begins in earnest, with Wisting and Stiller interviewing everyone who knew Cecilia – her family, friends, acquaintances, and co-workers. As they piece together her last movements, a complex web of deceit and betrayal slowly begins to reveal itself.
We see Wisting and Stiller zero in on a local gang known as the Puff Adders. Interestingly, Cecilia had run-ins with some of its members in the past, and the police believe they may have something to do with her death. However, as they delve deeper into the case, it becomes clear that there are other forces at play.
Wisting's daughter Line also gets involved, deciding to cover the story for her newspaper. This journalistic angle adds an extra dimension to the investigation, as it brings out truths that may have remained hidden otherwise.
As things start to get tense, and the pressure on the police mounts, a shocking new development arises. A second body is discovered, this time in the woods. The victim is identified as a young man, and he too has been dead for weeks. Suddenly, there is the sickening sense that something bigger and more sinister is afoot.
Wisting and Stiller work frantically to unravel the threads of the case, with no clear motive, and no witnesses. In this episode, we see them putting all their skills to the test, finding themselves pushed to their limits, as the mystery seems to just get more and more complicated.
Additionally, we see Wisting confronting his own past as he tries to find a connection between the two victims. He is still recovering from the trauma of his wife's arrest, and his daughter's recent absence, and the burden of the case seems almost too much to bear.
Overall, Episode 1 of Wisting Season 2 is a stunning start to the series. Every element is carefully crafted, from the direction and cinematography to the script and performances. It is a testament to the creators and the actors that the audience is quickly pulled into the story and left on the edge of their seats. The episode sets a high bar for the rest of the series, promising an enthralling and unforgettable journey into the criminal underworld of Norway.
