In the season 2 finale of Wyatt Cenac's Problem Areas, titled "Segregation Problems," the comedian and commentator tackles the issue of segregation in America. Cenac examines the history of segregation and redlining, which have contributed to the systemic inequality and racism that still exist today. He visits a suburb outside of Minneapolis, where residents are fighting against a proposed affordable housing development that they fear will bring in low-income people of color. Cenac speaks with both sides of the debate, including a black family that has been living in the area for generations and wants to see the community become more diverse, and a white homeowner who argues that the development would lower property values and increase crime. Cenac also travels to Baltimore, where he looks at the alarming statistic that the city's public schools are more segregated now than they were in 1954, when Brown v. Board of Education desegregated schools across the country. He talks to students, parents, and educators about the challenges of education in a deeply segregated city and why integration is important. With his trademark humor and empathy, Cenac sheds light on one of the most pressing issues facing the country today and encourages viewers to confront the uncomfortable truths about race and class in America.
