After a delicate meeting with best-selling author Charlotte and her no-nonsense daughter Liv, Alex tries to convince Sam to take on an untested new writer. Meanwhile, Alex tries to probe the real reason Ruari left university and, later, reconnects with Patrick.

After getting a surprising diagnosis, Alex deals with Ruari's graduation stunt, her ex-husband Lorcan's sudden decision to move to Canada, and the reemergence of her ex-client/nemesis Malcolm. Then, Alex sees Ruari off to university and agrees to go on a blind date with Michael...but finds herself drawn to her on-again off-again fling with Patrick.
