Bring It On: In It to Win It is a teen comedy starring Ashley Benson, Michael Copon and Cassie Scerbo and directed by Steve Rash. It was released direct-to-video in December 2007 and premiered on ABC Family in January 2008. It is the fourth installment in the Bring It On series. Bring It On: In It to Win It has a vague connection to the previous installments, which focus on the world of competitive cheerleading. The film doesn't contain any returning cast members or obvious references to previous films in the series. Only Steve Rash, the director of the preceding film, All or Nothing, returns to direct this installment. Bring It On: In It to Win It makes reference to the other films in the series in its opening scene of a choreographed cheer routine dreamed by the main character, Carson, played by Ashley Benson.
Carson, a California high school senior, travels to Cheer Camp Nationals with the goal of leading her West Coast Sharks Cheerleading Squad to victory. But her rival, New York cheerleader Brooke, played by Cassie Scerbo, and her team, the East Coast Jets, are equally determined to win the competition's prized Spirit Stick. As conflict arises between the two cheer squads, Carson becomes romantically involved with male cheerleader Penn, played by Michael Copon, unaware that he is a member of the rival Jets. When Brooke finds out about their relationship, she decides to challenge Carson to a cheer-off. The competition begins between Carson and Brooke, but the cheer battle explodes into a violent scuffle, and cheerleaders from both teams are barred from competing in Nationals. With their goal of winning the competition now a long shot at best, the leaders of the West Coast Sharks and the East Coast Jets realize they'll need to come together to form a new cheer squad in order to win the title.
