The film Caravaggio tells the story of the life and work of its namesake, the 16th century Italian painter, Caravaggio. The movie shows how Caravaggio's childhood and early upbringing went on to influence his adult life and work as an artist and painter. As an adult, Caravaggio is caught up in a whirlwind love triangle that both inspires his work and ultimately affects the course his life will take. The film explores the various vices that plague Caravaggio throughout his lifetime and portrays the religious and political undercurrents of 16th century Italian life.
