Colorful is a 2010 Japanese animated film. It chronicles the many pressures teenage children go through as they finish high school and enter college. An interesting feature of the movie is that the background and photographs in the film have been realistically traced, through an artistic process known as rotoscoping. A lost soul has been transposed into the body of a boy named Makoto, who just committed suicide by taking a pill overdose. The spirit finds harrowing things about Makoto and his family, such as that his family did not like him growing up. Also that his father is a pushover at work, forced to work unpaid overtime. Makoto hates his mother, who has an affair with a dance teacher. Makoto likes a girl at school who sells her body to older men so she can have the material things her family cannot give her. The movie illustrates how "colorful' life can really be.
