A horse lover, Janie Neeley, 12, works at a wealthy horse farm. The stable owner bought a gray pony, named Danny, for his daughter, Andrea. Andrea is insensitive when Danny is spooked by the family dog that runs over to him during a workout. Janie's put in charge of getting Danny ready for a horse show, for her boss. After Danny comes up lame, Mr. Cummings plans to get rid of him. A secret person sells Danny to Janie. Janie nurses him. She enters him in the Children's Hunter show, despite what Andrea and her parents think.
