Limelight is about how New York City bar and club owner Peter Gatien stayed in the limelight for so long. It also chronicles his downfall due to drug abuse and bad business deals. Mr. Gatien was a Canadian highly regarded as the leader in the 1980s scene. He owned The Palladium, Limelight, Club USA, and Tunnel. His trademark eye patch made him easy to notice. Former NYC mayor Rudolph Giuliani's successful efforts to curb down on the city's nightlife, particularly in places that featured illegal activity, resulted in Gatien being deported back to Canada. There are many interviews with Mr. Gatien's associates and with many of the players in the club scene back then.

Limelight is a 2011 documentary with a runtime of 1 hour and 32 minutes. It has received moderate reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 6.6 and a MetaScore of 57.
