Afterimages is a horror anthology film that was released in Singapore in 2014. Directed by Tony Kern, it tells five different stories that are interconnected by a single thread: the afterimages that remain in our minds after we see something traumatic, and how these afterimages can continue to haunt us long after the initial event. The movie features a talented cast of up-and-coming Singaporean actors, including Sheena Chan, Pamelyn Chee, and Roshan Gidwani.

The film opens with the story of an art gallery owner named Wei Ling (played by Chan), who is hosting an exhibition of macabre paintings by a mysterious artist named Siu-wai. As Wei Ling prepares for the opening reception, strange things start to happen in the gallery, and she begins to experience terrifying visions. The story develops into a more complex tale of revenge and betrayal, and the line between reality and imagination becomes increasingly blurred.

The second story follows a group of film students who are shooting a horror film in an abandoned hospital. Pamelyn Chee plays the director, and Roshan Gidwani plays one of the actors. As they explore the creepy building, they begin to experience strange phenomena, and they soon realize that the hospital is not as abandoned as they thought. This segment is particularly effective in its use of suspense and atmosphere, and it includes some genuinely creepy moments.

The third story is a more lighthearted one, revolving around a group of friends who are hanging out at a karaoke bar. They decide to tell ghost stories, and each one tries to top the others with a scarier tale. As the night goes on, however, they start to realize that their stories may have more truth to them than they thought. This segment is a bit of a departure from the rest of the film, but it serves as a welcome respite from the more intense horror elements.

The fourth story is perhaps the most surreal of the bunch. It follows a young woman (played by Chan) who is undergoing hypnotherapy to help her overcome her fear of water. As she drifts into a hypnotic state, she begins to relive memories of her childhood in a bizarre, dreamlike sequence that blurs the line between memory and fantasy. This segment is visually striking and haunting, but it may leave some viewers scratching their heads.

The final story brings everything full circle, as the characters from the previous segments converge in a haunting finale that ties all of the loose threads together. Without giving too much away, it involves a haunted house, a vengeful spirit, and some unexpected twists and turns. The ending is satisfying in its ambiguity, leaving the audience to ponder the meaning of the afterimages that continue to linger in their minds long after the credits roll.

Overall, Afterimages is an effective horror anthology that showcases some of the best emerging talent in Singaporean cinema. While some of the stories may be stronger than others, the film as a whole is a satisfyingly creepy experience that will leave viewers with plenty of afterimages of their own.

Afterimages is a 2017 fantasy movie with a runtime of 1 hour and 31 minutes. It has received mostly poor reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 4.9.
