Launched in 2005, Bionicle 3: Web of Shadows is the third of the successful Bionicle series. Directed by Terry Shakespeare and David Molina, Bionicle 3: Web of Shadows talks about the legacy of the heroic Toa Metru's comeback to their island hometown of Metru Nui to save its race, the Matoran, from its current comatose state. Upon arriving to their once majestic home, the Toa Metru are shocked to find their island has been destroyed and overruled by the Visorak, a horrendous spider-like creature that spins large webs. The Visorak holds the Toa captive and injects a venom that mutates them into a half Toa and half monster state. Joined forces by the Rahaga, the Toa Metru venture off in search of a legendary character known as Keetongu, who they believe will be able to turn back the mutated Toa into their natural state and vanquish the Visorak troops, which is led by Sidorak and Roodaka.

The plot starts with the crystal prison of Teridax. Suddenly, the voice of Roodaka is heard calling upon his name. A talon scratches the prison and a fragment falls to the ground and into a sand circle with other colored elements. Vakama, a creature of Turaga descent, starts telling the story of Toa Metru who captured the evil Teridax and pledged to save the immobile Matoran.

The task, however, will not be simple. Teridax has unleashed his most loyal troops, a horde of spider-like creatures called the Visorak who uses the element of poison to attack. The merciless and vicious army is ordered to desolate the Toa. The order reaches Sidorak who immediately directs his army to pursue and slay the Toa. But before the orders can reach its proper recipient, Roodaka, who is to be the future queen of the army, intercepts the message. She convinces Sidorak to delay the attack and let the venom take effect.

The Toa are led into a trap and is hung in cocoons as the venom slowly transforms them. Without an anti-venom, the condition may progress into a permanent state, which causes the Toa to lose their innate powers. They are rescued by the Rahaga and together venture off to find the mystic creature named Keetongu.
