Carlito's Way: Rise to Power

Carlito's Way: Rise to Power is the prequel to the 1993 film Carlito's Way and was written by Claudio Carvalho. The film stars Jay Hernandez, Mario Van Peeples, Luis Guzmán, Sean Combs, Domenick Lombardozzi, Burt Young and Michael Joseph Kelly. The story starts in a New York prison in the 1960's. African American Earl (Van Peeples), Puerto Rican Carlito (Hernandez) and Italian Rocco (Kelly) are released and plan to control the drug trade in Harlem. Currently, it is being fought over by a group of black gangsters led by Nicky (Combs) and the Italian Bottolota crime family. Rocco leads the trio of best friends to Artie Bottolota (Young) who eventually agrees to work with them in heroin distribution. Later when Earl is about to move to Barbados with his girlfriend his younger brother causes conflict with the Italian mobsters. As a result, Rocco and Carlito must fix the mess in order to save their lives.
