CBGB follows the early years of the iconic New York underground punk rock club. Alan Rickman stars as musician and club owner Hilly Crystal. An eccentric with an eye for talent, Crystal runs a Lower East Side venue originally known as the Country, Bluegrass, and Blues. But the revolutionary early seventies music scene, plus his own insistence on fostering creativity by only showcasing acts that play their own original music, means that he soon finds himself booking an entirely different type of band. Featuring a wide cast of actors portraying some of the most legendary personalities of the era, the movie also has cameos from actual musicians that performed at the club. The soundtrack is likewise a showcase for the scene and includes the likes of The Velvet Underground, Blondie, The Talking Heads, The New York Dolls and a host of other seminal bands.
