Chasing Cain is a 2001 Canadian thriller film directed by Jerry Ciccoritti and starring Peter Outerbridge, Alberta Watson, and Janet Wright. The movie tells the story of a detective duo, follows Detective Jacques LaRoche (played by Peter Outerbridge) and Detective Sue Sparks (played by Alberta Watson), as they investigate a murder case that involves the assassination of a university professor. The case involves complicated elements, and the detectives must use all their skills to crack the case and apprehend the perpetrator.

The movie begins with the aftermath of a murder that took place at a university. The professor of the university, Earl Jameson, was shot dead in full view of his class. Detective Jacques LaRoche and Detective Sue Sparks are called in to investigate the murder. As they begin their investigation, they soon realize that this was no ordinary shooting – there are a lot of things that seem to be going on behind the scenes. Their investigation takes them on a wild ride as they struggle to piece together the clues and solve the case.

LaRoche and Sparks are an interesting duo in Chasing Cain. The two detectives are very different in their approach to the job. Jacques LaRoche is a seasoned, old-school cop who has seen it all, while Sue Sparks is a younger and more inexperienced detective who is eager to prove herself. Despite their differences, the two work well together and complement each other's strengths.

As the investigation progresses, LaRoche and Sparks begin to unravel a web of deceit surrounding the university professor. The professor had been involved in some shady business involving students, and as the detectives delve deeper, they discover a range of suspicious characters who may be involved in the murder. There's Edgar Black, a wealthy businessman who seems to have had a close relationship with professor Jameson, and Emma, Jameson's research assistant at the university who has a hidden agenda of her own.

As the detectives get closer to the truth, danger lurks around every corner. They must race against time to catch the killer and put an end to the murders before the body count rises.

What makes Chasing Cain so compelling is the way that Ciccoritti weaves together the different strands of the story. There are several subplots that intersect with the main storyline, and the movie does a great job of keeping the viewer on their toes. Each character feels like a fully fleshed-out individual with their own motivations and backstories, making the world of Chasing Cain feel real and immersive.

Overall, Chasing Cain is a well-crafted and suspenseful thriller that keeps the viewer engaged from start to finish. The performances from Peter Outerbridge, Alberta Watson, and Janet Wright are all excellent, and the chemistry between LaRoche and Sparks is one of the movie's highlights. If you're a fan of crime dramas or just looking for a good thriller, Chasing Cain is definitely worth checking out.
