Christine is a 1983 horror movie directed by John Carpenter and starring Keith Gordon, John Stockwell, and Alexandra Paul. The movie tells the story of a high school nerd named Arnie Cunningham, who buys a classic car named Christine. Christine is a 1958 Plymouth Fury that seems to have a mind of its own and a dark past. Arnie buys Christine from a junkyard and immediately starts fixing her up. The car is in terrible condition, but Arnie sees something special in it. Christine becomes his obsession, and he spends all his time and money fixing her up. Arnie's friend Dennis Guilder is concerned about his friend's obsession with this car and tries to talk him out of it, but Arnie won't listen. Soon after getting Christine, strange things begin to happen. People who come into contact with the car start to die in mysterious ways. The first to go is the school bully, who harasses Arnie and defaces Christine. Arnie is seen as the prime suspect in the murder, as he has a motive for killing the bully. But when the car is examined, there is no evidence to suggest that it was involved in the murder. As the body count rises, Dennis becomes more and more convinced that Christine is responsible. He does some research and discovers that the car has a dark past. The previous owner committed suicide while sitting in Christine, and the car seems to have a malevolent spirit. Despite Dennis's warnings, Arnie refuses to give up on Christine. He becomes more and more possessed by the car, and his personality starts to change. He becomes more aggressive and starts to dress in 1950s style clothes. He even starts dating the most popular girl in school, Leigh Cabot (Alexandra Paul), who becomes increasingly worried about his obsession. The climax of the movie takes place at the high school prom, where Arnie and Leigh are crowned king and queen. Christine is parked outside the building, and Dennis and Leigh become trapped in the car when it locks itself. The car starts to drive itself, trying to kill them. In a terrifying finale, Dennis and Leigh must fight for their lives against the malevolent spirit that inhabits Christine. Christine is a classic horror movie that has stood the test of time.
