Coastlines is the fourth feature-length effort by writer, director, and editor Victor Nunez. The film's center is Sonny Mann, an ex-con who has spent his last 3 years in jail, after taking the rap for a crime committed by local crime bosses, Fred Vance and his nephew, Eddie. The devious duo has no intention of ever reimbursing Sonny for his time served. Despite a warning from his childhood friend, (the local sheriff) Dave Lockhart, Sonny tries to get the money, which results in the loss of both his home and his father. Dave takes in a grieving Sonny, but it isn’t too long before Sonny begins an affair with Dave’s wife, Ann. Coastlines juggles revenge and betrayal brilliantly. The film features spectacular performances from Timothy Olyphant as Sonny, Josh Brolin as Dave, and Sarah Wynter as Ann. Nunez crafts a poignant adult drama, worthy of being included in his short but impressive filmography.
