Dance with me is a film written by Daryl Matthews and directed by Randa Haines. It is centered around the character, Rafael Infante. Rafael is from Cuba and has come to the states to meet his father. The only problem is that Rafael's father does not know that he exists. Rafael's mother is deceased and did not tell his father that she'd had a child. Upon arriving in Houston Rafael's father, John, played by actor Kris Kristofferson, gives him a place to sleep and a job at the dance studio that he runs. When Rafael enters the studio, he instantly feels comfortable with the people there. They soon become like family. However, Rafael wishes that he would connect like this with his father. Ruby, whose character is played by Vannessa Williams, is Rafael's love interest, although it was not love at first sight. Ruby is a single mother and is strictly focused on her family and her dancing. She had a failed relationship with her former dance partner and is not looking to get in another relationship. This soon changes as she sees that Rafael is a genuine and caring human-being. They soon fall in love. While everyone is training for a dance competition it becomes apparent that Rafael can dance. He soon becomes Patricia's partner in the competition. Patricia, whose character is played by Jane Krakowski, is training for the competition and replaces her dance partner, John, with Rafael. Rafael soon finds the courage to tell John who he really is, but this news is not well received. In fact, he never has a chance to actually tell him, because in the mist of the conversation John abruptly tells him that he does not have a son. The situation is eventually resolved, and John accepts Rafael as his son. The competition is a success, as Vanessa Williams's character lights up the stage with her sultry Latin dance moves. She and her former partner Julian, played by Rick Valenzuela, ultimately win the competition, but it is Rafael and Ruby whose undeniable chemistry sets the room ablaze.
