Day of the Assassin is an action-packed thriller from 1979, directed by Brian Trenchard-Smith and starring Glenn Ford, Chuck Connors, and Richard Roundtree. The movie is set in South America, where a former CIA agent, Henry Silva, is hired by an infamous drug lord to eliminate a rival cartel boss. However, the mission takes an unexpected turn when Silva discovers that he has been set up, and now he must fight for his life against both cartels and the corrupt government that supports them.

The movie begins with Silva, a retired CIA agent, living a peaceful life in South America with his wife and son. One day, he receives a mysterious phone call from a wealthy drug lord named Juan Carlos de la Vega (Chuck Connors), who offers him a job as a hitman for his cartel. At first, Silva is reluctant to accept, but the promise of a large sum of money convinces him to take the job.

Silva’s mission is to kill the head of a rival cartel, Miguel ‘Mike’ Geraldo (Jorge Luke), who has been smuggling drugs into the country without paying the appropriate bribes to the government officials. Silva, who is an expert in his field, manages to infiltrate Geraldo’s heavily guarded compound and eliminate him. However, things don’t go as planned, and Silva soon realizes that he’s been set up to take the fall for Geraldo’s death.

While on the run from the authorities, Silva teams up with a group of rebels led by a charismatic leader, Marcos (Richard Roundtree), who is fighting against the corruption and oppression in the country. Together, they try to uncover the truth about Geraldo’s death and the real players behind it. The journey is perilous, and they face many obstacles, including ambushes, double-crossing, and assassination attempts.

Glenn Ford gives a fantastic performance as Henry Silva, the seasoned hitman who is forced to confront his past and make difficult choices. Silva is a complex character, torn between his loyalty to his family and his sense of morality. He is a man who has seen it all, and his cold, calculating demeanor makes him a formidable opponent.

Chuck Connors is equally impressive as Juan Carlos de la Vega, the millionaire drug lord who oozes charm and menace. Connors imbues his character with a sense of sophistication and class, making him a villain who is hard to hate.

Richard Roundtree brings his trademark charisma and charm to the role of Marcos, the revolutionary leader who fights for the people. Marcos is a man of passion and conviction, and Roundtree plays him with conviction and heart.

The action sequences in Day of the Assassin are thrilling and well-executed, with plenty of gunfights, car chases, and explosions. The movie has a gritty, realistic feel to it, and the violence is tough and unflinching.

Overall, Day of the Assassin is a solid action movie from the late 70s, with a great cast, pulse-pounding action, and a compelling storyline. The movie tackles themes of corruption, betrayal, and revenge, and does so with style and grit. Fans of classic action movies will not be disappointed.

Day of the Assassin is a 1981 drama with a runtime of 1 hour and 26 minutes. It has received mostly poor reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 4.2.
