Doom is a 2005 science fiction horror film directed by Andrzej Bartkowiak and starring Karl Urban, Rosamund Pike, and Dwayne Johnson. It is loosely based on the video game series of the same name and follows a team of marines sent to investigate a research facility on Mars that has been overrun by genetically engineered creatures. The movie begins with a brief prologue where a group of scientists are experimenting with a genome that can activate human-like traits in certain individuals. In the present day, a distress signal is received from a research facility on Mars, where the genetic experiments have apparently gone wrong. A team of marines, led by Sarge (Dwayne Johnson) is sent to the red planet to investigate.

The team, consisting of Reaper (Karl Urban), Duke (Raz Adoti), Destroyer (DeObia Oparei), Portman (Richard Brake), Goat (Ben Daniels), The Kid (Al Weaver), and Pinky (Dexter Fletcher), travel to Mars via a special portal. Once there, they find the facility in disarray and are immediately attacked by the creatures, which are fast-moving and hard to kill. It soon becomes clear that the marines have been sent on a suicide mission, and their only chance of survival is to stick together and find a way off the planet.

As they explore the facility, the marines come across Dr. Samantha Grimm (Rosamund Pike), who is the sister of one of the scientists on Mars. The team discovers that the creatures were created by the genome experiments, and they are now breeding out of control. The creatures, which are basically zombies, have been infecting the scientists and turning them into monsters.

The movie is fast-paced and action-packed, with plenty of violence and gore. The creatures are creepy and well-designed, and the cinematography is suitably moody and atmospheric. The acting is decent, with Karl Urban giving a solid performance as the stoic Reaper, and Dwayne Johnson playing against type as the jarhead Sarge.

One of the most interesting things about Doom is the way it incorporates elements from the video game series into the plot. For example, there is a sequence where Reaper goes into 'first-person shooter' mode and mows down a group of creatures using a machine gun. This sequence is a direct nod to the video games, and it's a lot of fun for fans of the series.

Another interesting element of Doom is the way it explores themes of genetic experimentation and the consequences of playing with nature. The idea of creating a genome that can activate human-like traits is an intriguing one, and it's interesting to see how this technology could be weaponized for military purposes.

Overall, Doom is a solid science-fiction horror movie that will appeal to fans of the video game series, as well as fans of action and horror movies in general. While it's not a groundbreaking film, it's an entertaining romp through a dark and dangerous world, with plenty of thrills and scares along the way.

Doom is a 2005 action movie with a runtime of 1 hour and 45 minutes. It has received mostly poor reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 5.2 and a MetaScore of 34.
