Fenton Meiks is speaking Wesley Doyle, an FBI Agent. They are discussing the manhunt that has been going on for the God's Hand Killer. This serial killer is one who is supposedly killing those who he has proclaimed to be demons in the disguise of humans. Doyle isn't quite convinced that Meiks isn't just an unstable persona looking for attention, so he listens to him. Fenton tells Doyle all about the origins of the God's Hand Killer. Fenton begins to tell him the story of his childhood. Fenton's father believed he was visited by an angel that tells him that he must do God's work and destroy the demons on earth. Fenton relates the first time when his father took he and his brother to hunt down these demons. The two boys end up witnessing their father murder the sheriff. Through lots of flashbacks, the story takes lots of bizarre twists and turns in order to find out who the God's Hand Killer truly is.
