In Guinevere, Connie Fitzpatrick, a middle-aged bohemian wedding photographer, finds his model muse hiding away at her sister’s wedding ceremony. Harper Sloane, an introverted twenty year old college student from a well heeled family who is on the verge of her twenty-first birthday, takes to Connie immediately after their brief, yet memorable encounter during the reception.

Trouble comes into Harper’s seemingly picture perfect world when she is accepted into Harvard Law, yet decides to tell them she did not get in after being placed on a waiting list indefinitely; she chooses to break this news in the middle of what appears to be an idyllic dinner. Afterwards, she takes up residence in the aging photographer’s book-riddled San Francisco studio apartment.

The relationship between the two is presented as one between a mentor and his student, with Connie advising Harper that, in order to stay with him, she will have to pick up a creative hobby; be it dancing, writing, painting, or photography. Harper opts to follow in her teacher’s footsteps, taking up photography as her craft of choice. However, as the film progresses, it begins to blossom in its intimacy before shifting into a full-on romance.

Their bond is soon tested once the couple find themselves facing judgment from the outside world and Harper’s vindictive and shallow mother, Deborah Sloane, and Harper discovers that she may not be the only muse that Connie seeks for his artistic inspiration. Soon, Connie questions wherever Harper is truly any different than the people from the affluent background that she comes from herself.

The film shows the relationship from a realistic viewpoint, choosing to detail every less than ideal event which occurs over the course of their love affair, including one incident at a food stand during a trip to Los Angeles which serves as the pivotal point in a series of events emphasizing the significant age gap between the two.

Guinevere presents the viewers with the journey of a young woman looking to break away from the way of life established by her affluent family and create an identity for herself
