Hanussen tells the tale of Klaus Schneider, an Austrian citizen who is wounded after fighting in the First World War. While in the care of physicians, it is discovered by Doctor Emil Bettleheim that Schneider has an unworldly and special talent rarely seen in the past. Schneider decides to change his name to Erik Jan Hanussen and make the journey to Berlin, Germany, in order to make a spectacle of his amazing talent of reading minds and hypnosis. However, Hanussen’s powers are soon discovered by the Nazis and they come to the conclusion that they will abuse Hanussen at their discretion, causing pain and hardship for him.
