- 2 hr
Jason's Lyric is a movie that is centered around a young man named Jason whose character is played by Allen Payne. In the movie he is a street wise young man who is plagued by his past. Jason is the oldest son and struggles to keep his younger brother focused and on the straight and narrow. Jason's younger brother Joshua, played by Bokeem Woodbine, is especially troubled and has spent a good deal of time in prison. Each time he's out his mother and brother hope that he will get his act together but he doesn't. Joshua is plagued by the same demons as Jason but handles his problems by drinking himself into unconsciousness. Joshua also gravitates toward a life of crime and feels like hard work is something that is just not for him. Soon, he finds himself involved with some hard core gangsters played by Anthony Treach Criss, and Lahmard J. Tate. The character Gloria, played by Suzzanne Douglas, is the mother who works hard to care for her children. She loves them both but has a difficult time showing love for Joshua because he is always doing something to break her heart. This is not the case with Jason who is very respectful of her and does everything that he can to make her feel better about any given situation. Maddog is the father in the movie and is played by Forest Whitaker. He was once a great father to both Jason and Joshua and left fond memories, unfortunately Joshua was too young to remember the good times. Maddog changed after he went to war and came back injured and a different person. As a result, the relationship between he and Suzzanne's character did not work. He became abusive and eventually died at the hands of Jason, which is why he and his brother are troubled so terribly. Lyric is a young lady in the movie that captures Jason's heart. She is a sassy young lady that shows Jason what it means to love. She shares her secrets with him and they plan to run away together. This dream is cut short when Joshua targets Lyric and pulls a gun on her. While accusing her of taking Jason away from him, he accidentally shoots her. Support cast members Lisa Nichole Carson and Eddie Griffin help add a splash of comedy to this heartfelt love story.
