Starring Whoopi Goldberg, LL Cool J, Jada Pinkett Smith, Anthony Anderson and Loreeta Devine, 'Kingdom Come' is about a family's attempts to deal with the loss of a loved one, often through dysfunctional humor. The movie begins with Raynelle Slocumb (Whoopi Goldberg) reading a letter from his sister to her husband when Pop Slocumb passes away. The family is soon notified as the planning and discussion of the funeral arrangments soon begins. The first to arrive is the oldest son, Ray Bud (LL Cool J) with his wife Charisse (Smith) to help Mama Raynelle with the arrangments. The group is quickly joined by Pop's sister, Marguerite (Devine) who is a very enthusiastically religious, with her son, Royce. Finally, the Slocumb's second son, Junior (Anderson) and his wife, Lucille (Vivica A. Fox) arrive with their bunch of unruly children. The family soon find themselves at odds as each has their own idea of what the funeral should represent and how it should be conducted. Junior wants to go all out for his father's funeral, however, the problem is that he doesn't have the financial resources to cover his vision. This sparks an argument as Ray Bud realizes that his brother is expecting him to pay for the services, which quickly turns into a wrestling match between the two. In the meantime, Lucille has discovered that Junior was unfaithful and wastes no time in letting the rest of the family know about their issues, while Ray Bud's wife, Charisse, is recovering from the devastating miscarriage she suffered months before and is trying to remain calm in the face of her husband's frenzy. The family pulls together and finally face each of their own issues to appreciate their loved ones. The funeral shows each member just how short life can be and what they can easily lose. As the movie ends each member reveals what they have learned.
