Jumanji: The Next Level
- 1 hr 40 min
In the adventure sequel Jumanji: The Next Level, a group of friends has to enter a video game to save their friends. Inside the game, they'll face many dangers. And they'll have a few laughs. In this installment in the franchise, the group of teenage friends has to magically transport themselves into a video game to rescue a friend who has disappeared into the game. In the game, they face dangers from fierce animals, a scheming warlord, and climate problems in the fictional jungle. The film is a sequel to 2017's Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle. The sequel features a very similar plot to that of the original film. In both films, the comedy stems from the gimmick that the real-life teenagers are transported into the bodies of adult fictional characters. The forms and characteristics of the fictional characters are in marked contrast to the personalities of the real-life kids. The weird juxtaposition provides the opportunity for much hilarity. Both films share a separate plotline from the original 1995 Jumanji movie. In that original film, the magical game was a board game instead of a video game. The original film starred Robin Williams. Jumanji: The Next Level was one of the highest grossing films of 2019. It followed on the success of Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, which was one of the highest grossing films of 2017. Jumanji: The Next Level also met with mostly positive critical response. About three quarters of critics gave it a positive review, on a par with its predecessor.
