Kavalan is a Tamil-language action-thriller film from 2011, starring Joseph Vijay, Asin Thottumkal, and Raj Kiran. Directed by Siddique, the film is a remake of the successful Malayalam film Bodyguard, which was also directed by Siddique. The film follows the story of Anbarasu, a bright college student who quits education to become a bodyguard for a high-profile businessman Eswarapandian.

As the film opens, Anbu (Joseph Vijay), a college student, is left orphaned by his parents' deaths. He is taken in by a kind and wealthy man named Eswarapandian. Eswarapandian is a successful businessman, who has made powerful enemies in his line of work. His daughter Keerthi (Asin Thottumkal) is spoiled and petulant, accustomed to getting her way. The wealthy man hires Anbu to work as Keerthi's bodyguard, ensuring her safety from the dangers posed by his rivals.

Initially, Keerthi dislikes Anbu and tries to get rid of him by making his life difficult. However, Anbu wins her over with his kind nature and loyalty towards his job. Slowly, Keerthi begins to respect Anbu and even falls in love with him. However, the couple's happiness is short-lived as Keerthi's father arranges her marriage to another man.

As the wedding date approaches, Anbu learns of a plot to kill Eswarapandian and Keerthi at the wedding. In a thrilling sequence, Anbu fights off the assassins and saves the couple. After this incident, Keerthi's father realizes Anbu's value and offers him a job as his personal security guard.

While the plot of Kavalan seems familiar, what sets it apart is the relationship between the two leads. The film is not just an action-packed thriller, but also a love story. Joseph Vijay and Asin Thottumkal have great chemistry on-screen, and their blossoming relationship makes for some heartwarming moments in the film.

The acting in the film is top-notch, with Joseph Vijay delivering an energetic and convincing performance as Anbu. Asin Thottumkal shines as Keerthi, moving seamlessly between the spoilt brat and the lovestruck woman. Raj Kiran delivers a solid performance as Eswarapandian, the wealthy businessman who cares for Anbu like a son.

Siddique's direction is deft, successfully managing to balance the film's two main themes of love and action. The action sequences are thrilling, and Vijay displays some impressive stunts. The film's music, composed by Vidyasagar, is soulful and catchy. The song sequences are well-choreographed, adding to the film's entertainment value.

One criticism of the film is that it falls into cliches at times. The story of a bodyguard falling in love with his client has been done many times in cinema, and Kavalan doesn't bring anything new to the table in terms of plot. Additionally, some of the twists in the film are predictable.

However, these criticisms aside, Kavalan is an enjoyable watch. Fans of action films and romance will find plenty to enjoy in the film. The film's central message of loyalty and love is heartwarming, and the performances of the cast make the film a must-watch.

Overall, Kavalan is an entertaining action-thriller with a good dose of romance. While it may not break new ground in terms of plot, the film's strong performances, catchy music, and well-executed action sequences make it a movie worth watching.

Kavalan is a 2010 drama with a runtime of 2 hours and 24 minutes. It has received mostly positive reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 7.0.
