Kill Your Darlings is a 2013 biographical drama film debuting at the Toronto International Film Festival. It is sent in the early 1940s, and tells the story of the dramatic events surrounding the mysterious murder of David Kammerer by Lucien Carr. The movie revolves around key iconic figures of the New York City Beat Generation, including Alan Ginsberg, Jack Kerouac, and William S. Burroughs. The movie explores the themes of literary boundaries and creative journeys undertaken my the main characters. It offers a close look at the personalities that helped shape, define and develop the Beat Generation and create the many works of literature emerging from it, changing the world they lived in and being changed by the times they were living in. Starting from Alan Ginsberg's disillusionment and dissatisfaction with the world around him and proceeding through their journey of self-discovery and change in the wake of Kammerer's murder, the film offers a close look not only at the characters themselves, but also at the events that helped change them.
